Job Title: Director of Children, Youth & Family Ministries
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Part-time: approximately 20 hours per week
Required: regular Sunday attendance (morning 4 hours,
evening 2 hours)Summer (one week VBS)
This is a salaried position.
St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church is seeking a spiritually mature person to oversee ministries for children, youth and families. We are looking for an experienced leader who will collaborate with the Pastor and lay leadership to plan, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate comprehensive Christian Education programs and other activities for children, youth and families. We also desire a leader who will engage the congregation and community in ways that will support and grow Christian Education. We are seeking a person of faith who has a strong commitment to the spiritual development of children and youth, and an overall vision of what spiritual formation and Christian discipleship entails.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Children: Coordinate children’s Sunday school, children’s messages, nursery, and VBS. This will include collaboration with the Education work area to plan and oversee children’s Sunday School programs, summer VBS, and other educational programs for children and families; select age-appropriate Sunday School curriculum; provide support for Sunday School teachers through training and other supportive activities; recruit and prepare volunteer teachers; maintain resources, teaching materials, and supplies. Assist the pastor with the Confirmation Class.
Youth: Lead Sunday evening MYF, and develop opportunities for youth to grow in their faith and witness through activities and study; provide opportunity for fellowship with church family and surrounding community; promote and expand Christian education opportunities; engage youth in activities sponsored by the greater United Methodist Church; develop outreach and mission opportunities.
Fellowship: Work with the congregation to increase cross-generational involvement in church activities; develop and support family discipleship events; develop personal relationships with children and families. Oversee and participate in children’s fellowship activities. Oversee and participate in youth fellowship activities including weekly meetings and special programs; initiate efforts to expand programs; develop personal relationships with youth; coordinate and participate in outreach to the surrounding community via programs such as service projects, collaboration with other local churches, and mission trips.
Administrative: participate in staff meetings; attend work area meetings that concern children and family ministries; publicize children and family ministries; write bulletin and newsletter announcements; communicate with the leadership and congregation in a timely fashion; establish personal relationships with church family; build and share program planning and implementation; work collaboratively with staff and congregation.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: BA (strongly preferred) with specific training in Christian education, youth ministry, spiritual formation, or equivalent
Experience in recruiting, training, and supporting lay leadership
Knowledge of and experience with building and supporting Christian Education programs for children, youth, and families
Experience with team building
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with all ages
Excellent speaking, writing, and presentation skills
Demonstrated skills in organization and time management
Committed to upholding the United Methodist Safe Sanctuaries guidelines through thorough record keeping, congregational training, and support

Faith in Jesus Christ and theological orientation compatible with the tenets of the United Methodist Church
Strong personal commitment to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Ability to work collaboratively with lay volunteers and bring initiative and drive in order to develop and implement programs
Ability to work successfully with all age groups
Excited to expand and participate in children, youth and family ministries
Recently active in the life and ministry of a church
Ability to bring creativity, responsibility, and passion to program development and implementation
